five current beauty favourites feat. Kiehl's, Omorovicza, By Terry, Jo Malone & Ouai Haircare

I don't always publish monthly favourites, they appear to have fallen from favour but I thought I'd kick off a new week by going back to blogging basics by compiling a list of the products I currently love the most.

Kiehl's Créme de Corps Body Lotion - a firm favourite, a classic, a staple.  This rich body cream allows for an indulgent spa like experience from the comfort of your own home.  This thick, decadent cream smells divine.  It leaves skin incredibly soft and the scent lingers on limbs.  I slather a generous layer of this on every night, I would marinate in it if I could!

Omorovicza Balancing Moisturiser - is a saviour for my combination/oily skin especially during the warmer Summer months.  I love the texture of this.  It feels soothing and lightweight but provides serious hydration all while keeping my T-zone in check.   It leaves a subtle satin finish and provides a great base for makeup.  A must buy if you are struggling to treat a dehydrated complexion.   There's a fine line between glowy and greasy!

Ouai Finishing Créme - my hair is ridiculously thick and I can find it difficult to manage. (Seriously, drying it requires snacks and frequent naps!  If I was rich, I'd get my hair blow dried all of the time! There was a period when I lost the run of myself and did this! #Notions...)  This lotion provides moisture and protects against damage from heat styling.  This adds shine and a polished lived-in look. I love the scent of this and it separates hair beautifully.

Jo Malone London Geranium & Walnut Hand Cream - even though Winter weary skin is now fading into a distant memory (almost!) for me, hand cream is a year round handbag essential. Delightfully non greasy, it absorbs quickly.  This nourishing cream leaves my hands soft and smooth. The light fragrance imparts a subtle scent.

By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Balm - another product I can't be without.  I've mentioned it/full on raved about it several times before like in this review post.  It feels incredibly nourishing and softening upon application.  It smells dreamy without being overly synthetic.

There you have it the products I'm currently loving.  Much loved and forever repurchased favourites.

The Past Few Months...

Living with anxiety and MSA Multiple System Atrophy
Apologies for the lack of content on LLA.  I've gone from posting every other day to being decidedly MIA.  It just felt so vapid and trivial to ramble about beauty with everything going on.  Except on Instagram which you can find here - dogs, dashes to Space NK galore.  I tried to maintain a presence there because as we all know, coffee doesn't taste as good if you don't first photograph it for the 'gram! The last few months have been pretty intense.  As much as I hated not posting regularly, the absence felt necessary.

Weeks of working myself into the ground (literally) which then gave rise to me leaving that job.  Then my Mum who is in her 70s being hospitalised for 6 weeks before finally being diagnosed with MSA.  I'm sorry that I'll never stop banging on about it raising awareness of it.  Multiple System Atrophy - it is stupidly rare, there is no cure, no treatment and it's a truly horrible disease.  As if she hadn't been through enough.  My brave Mother battled cancer years ago then just when we were getting over that, in quick succession lost her Mother and we lost my Dad to cancer.  I don't wish ill health or misfortune on anyone but seriously universe my family doesn't need to have a monopoly on these things!!!  A whirlwind of adapting rooms, occupational, speech and physical therapists, carers, installing chair lifts and purchasing walking sticks, walkers and a wheelchair ensued.

Also, the doctor just recently confirmed that I was suffering with anxiety.  Not to be confused with the natural feelings of anxiousness but hideous, accute anxiety.  Not exactly a shock for me or my friends/family but for years I've had IBS but as it turns out this was merely a physical manifestation of the wider problem.  Who knew?  It isn't my gut that needed treating!  Not me evidently...

And just for good measure the dog was recently diagnosed with diabetes!  So it's been a bit of a circus of trying to get her to eat so I can wait 15/20 minutes before I have to practically chase her around to give her an insulin injection twice daily...  Weekly vet visits and much to the amusement of my neighbours, I often have to urge her to "go to the toilet" in a fervent whisper so I can then try to get a urine sample for said vet visit!  All of this can only do wonders for my social life!  Never mind dating life.  Form an orderly queue boys...

While I feel like the last few months definitely took their toll on me, I've lots to be grateful and give thanks for and sure we don't grow when life is plain sailing.  So I'm back, thanks for sticking with me! Posts might be a little sporadic but I missed writing and it's has been cathartic to let the words flow.  I hope this post somewhat explains my absence and offers comfort, so you know you're not alone when life isn't always Insta' worthy full of perfect captured moments - pink skies, avocado toast et. al.

P.s. I'm know that the accompanying picture is completely irrelevant and what? ;)

Frédéric Malle Perfume
Recently I had the opportunity to explore the Frédéric Malle perfume collection in the equally beautiful surroundings of The Merrion Hotel.  Perfume is so personal and more than an after thought that you apply as you head out the door.  It has a powerful effect.  Now niche, artisinal brands are stepping out of the shadows and are becoming more widely available.

Founded in 2000, Frédéric Malle recently taken under the wing of Estée Lauder Companies offers up an olfactory dream to the discerning fragrance fiend.  Quite unlike anything you've smelt before. Unique, bespoke, distinctive scents, layer depths of potent ingredients.  The perfect anecdote to the high-street fragrance counter.  Intriguing scents created by the worlds greatest noses.  I recently got to discover the collection ahead of the launch of the newest scent Superstitious, a collaboration with designer Alber Elbaz which will be available from the new counter in Brown Thomas in July.

Frédéric Malle Geranium Pour Monsieur* is for men but I've never been a fan of typically girly, sweet scents.  It's like wearing your boyfriend's shirt and it still smells like him.  From perfumer Dominique Ropion, this is a refined spin on a clean, fresh, sophisticated scent.  Notes include; mint, peppermint and geranium, clove and sandalwood. Incredibly long lasting.  Takes fragrance to the luxe level and propels you from day to night with ease.

The divine Frédéric Malle collection is available from Brown Thomas and Parfumarija Dublin.
